Colorado Springs is about to discover how much its citizens care about their public parks. The cash-starved city is removing trash bins from 128 public parks as part of an effort to save $5,700 on supplies such as bags. The decision comes after officials cut 27 maintenance jobs in the Parks Department because of budget woes (via the Associated Press). Officials recommend that residents simply take their trash home. Meanwhile, the picturesque, but unmonitored, Pawnee National Grassland on the high plains of eastern Colorado turned into a dump for a person (or persons) who wanted to get rid of 250 tires, spawning a federal investigation, writes 9News. In another incident, 600 tires were illegally discarded on private land northeast of Greeley.
