With House Speaker Terrance Carroll term-limited in 2010, several candidates are being talked about as potential successors in House District 7. On the Democratic side, professional pollster Mark Mehringer has already said he’ll run for the seat next year. Insurance agent Angela Williams and party activist Russell Green are also reportedly interested in running in the heavily Democratic district. Williams, who helped coordinate get-out-the-vote efforts last year between the Denver Democrats and Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, is being backed by former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb. Williams and Green are both African-American; Carroll is currently the only African-American serving in the Colorado House. Denver Republican party Chair Ryan Call said the GOP is still looking for prospective candidates to run for the seat. In 2008, Carroll mauled the Republican candidate, Josh Raines, with 79 percent of the vote.
