When Tom and Diane Barrett moved into their home on Polo Club Drive more than a decade ago, building a charming wine cellar topped Tom’s home improvement list. The partially underground room off the back of the house proved ideal for the project. Tom enlisted the help of local residential carpenter Joe Blanc, skimmed shelter magazines for ideas, and set out to construct an elegant space that holds about 900 bottles of wine. “It’s set up to be enjoyed,” Tom says. “It’s really a playground for an old guy.”
